From the physical model representation of the photo, a complex structure has formed hidden behind the extracted layers of the original image. There is a more or less calculated precision to the angle of the layers creating a stronger or weaker shade but the position of the layers in space is more of a “build as we go” design. The position of where the layers go depends on where you want the person to view the model (model 01 - 10 ft, model 02 - 3 ft). The structure is even less predictable with how and where it will be placed in the confines of the model bounding box. This organized/unorganized design creates an imaginative “behind the scenes” of a photo in 3D form.

The concept of the building continues the idea of this dematerialization and rematerialization from 4 vantage points around the Red Hook site. Because of the scale of this project the value needs to be reinforced by other means of design like extrusions and perforations, otherwise the value change would be too subtle. Also, using this design process in such a large scale skews the perspective because of effects from parallax. There needs to be an almost polar curve of the layers to create the correct “illusion”.
